It shouldn't be hard to guess what's there in the box. Yes, it's a lot of ppl's fav dish, especially during Chinese wedding. Bowls and bowls of Shark fin's soup will be dished out as one of the delicacy. Ever thought of how many sharks will die cos of one wedding dinner? As a matter of fact, one shark has 6 fins. The top Dorsal Fin, 2nd dorsal fin, 2 X Pectoral fin , pelvic fin and claudal fin. The pelvic fin and 2nd Dorsal fin are too small for consumption, and usually claudal fin is not being used. So that leaves with 3 fins, the Top Dorsal Fin, and 2 Pectoral fin. Dorsal fin being the fav, cause it's the biggest, usually fetch the most amount of money. As time passes, you can see that the fins being served are getting smaller and smaller.. no prizes for guessing why.. It's obvious that the sharks haven't even matured and they are being hunted for their fins. What happen to their body? They are thrown back into the sea and left to die. It's really cruel.. It's just like cutting my hands and legs and throw me in the park, leaving me to slowly lose blood and die. Yikes!!

Some ppl have commented that it's the same as eating poultry, but i beg to differ. Poultry is something that your rear. Animals that you provide them with food, water, and erm.. logging. What about the big blue ocean? Is there anyone that rears Sharks for fins? I've never heard of such things. The ocean is like an open treasure box, waiting for the unethical fishermen to overfish, and discard whatever they can't sell. Why? cos it doesn't harm just fishing for more. Every extra fish that they have may earn more. If it doesn't sell, well... just throw.. It didn't cost anything in the first place. That's the huge difference between poultry and fishes.

Commercially, some fishes are being reared. but that's only a small proportion of the population. The ocean is too big for scientist to accurately determine how much is left. But one thing for sure is that the Sharks are getting endangered. The Blue fin tuna.. Is highly Endangered. The salmon.. one of Sashimi enthuist fav, is about to join the list. Many many more are queuing up.

It's not possible for us to prevent the extinction of some of the animals, but every one of us can play a part in helping them. E.g Saying no to those endangered species is a small step in saving them. Recalling 3 weeks ago, I saw a jap shop in Parkway parade selling Blue fin Tuna and Giant clam in it's freezer. I'm just amuzed how come it could get past the AVA. Singapore is against importing of endangered species. Not telling you to report them, but the least you could do is don't buy, and help educate others. For a even greater effect, Pls don't order Shark fin's soup for your wedding dinner night. There are many more other substitutes that can be used. Just one decision, and you prevent 10s of sharks being killed. Well... The fin's are already in the shophouses.. you don't eat it, it'll still be there.. but if you don't buy it, the shopkeepers will not earn money, and the less they sell, the less they will import, and the less they import, the less fishermen will hunt for them.. And Wala.. It's a whole darn cycle that we need to put a hold..
